31.05.2010 - Ilford's Thornton Cup Plate team progress to the 2nd round
Ilford's Thornton Cup Plate team are through to the 2nd round of the competition after a 7-3 victory over Benton Hall last Sunday.
The Plate competition, open to the teams knocked out of the first round proper of the Thornton Cup, is a new addition to the Essex Golf Union club calendar. Played in a format similar to the Norman Plum Trophy, whereby a team of 10 play simultaneously 5 at home and 5 away.
Ilford managed to win at both courses, 4-1 at home and 3-2 away. The team, Captained by Ray Stevens, now face Royal Epping Golf Club in the 2nd round to be played on Sunday 27th June.

Ilford Golf Club's Leslie Woods team were narrowly defeated in the first round of the Essex Golf Union run competition yesterday, losing 9-6 away at Thorndon Park Golf Club.
Thursday evening saw Ilford Golf Club Captain, Jim Gallagher, open the much anticipated new par 4 4th hole.
Ilford Golf Club's Essex Seniors team overcame Burnham on Crouch on Monday in the first round of the county competition.
The Norman Plum team, captained by Andy Gray, were knocked out at the first hurdle on Saturday.
Ilford Golf Club have been drawn to play Romford Golf Club in the 4th round of the Mail on Sunday Classic team competition.
